It’s my book birthday! My debut occult suspense novel, CURSED VINES, has been released worldwide and I couldn’t be more excited.

To my close friends and family, this news is a long time coming. For the last decade, I have been working at writing, editing, proofreading, querying, signing small publishing contracts, designing the cover and websites, and finally self-publishing. This novel is my labor of love, my lifelong dream.

CURSED VINES is a suspense novel set in the heart of Portugal that explores Portuguese culture and superstition through the eyes of Talia Braga, a young bicultural reporter eager to break the next big crime story.

Promising reporter Talia Braga has been haunted by prophetic nightmares since her grandmother’s passing. So when her twin cousins end up victims of an occult killing spree in suburban Massachusetts, Talia drags her friends to Portugal to investigate.

The sudden disappearance of her best friend Caryn in Lisbon and her grandmother’s stolen amulet fuels Talia’s obsession with her infamous uncle, who she is convinced is the murderer. Now alone on the trail, Talia falls for a local named Nuno, whose knowledge of Portuguese dark magic plunges her deeper into her family’s mysterious past. Entangled in dark family secrets, Talia may have to sacrifice everything to escape her destiny and save the ones she loves.

Much of the story is based on my experiences being the daughter of a Portuguese immigrant family who kept their culture close to their hearts—along with a clove of garlic to keep the witches away. I learned a lot about Portuguese history from my father, like my main character, Talia. I share a lot of it in this book.

Portugal has a rich culture of exploration, spirituality, and superstition that has been ingrained into our psyche. It’s been fun exploring it with Talia on this journey. I hope you’ll come along for the ride!
